Accredited Course Descriptions

  • 401 - KeyCreator Levels 1-2
Explore the interface of KEYCREATOR beyond the basics: 2D detailed drafting, 3D drafting and design with exploration into solid modeling, surface rendering using the many tools available in KEYCREATOR, assemblies and Rapid Prototyping. Instructors bring back classroom tricks, activities, solutions and "WOW" factors, plus suggestions for integrating Math and Science.  The course also teaches: the importance of levels, 2D Wireframe, 3D Modeling, and Solid Modeling to create industrial drafting and design drawings through a real geometry approach to 3D modeling . Take home activities that go beyond the textbook and incorporate industry's rationale for using leveling techniques and color to improve creative modeling, design and detailed layout drawings. Study the new power and features of KeyCreator and its integrated features.

  • 501 - Envisioneer Levels 1-2
Explore the basics of 3D architectural residential design using the extremely simple-to-use parametric modeling features and advantages of Envisioneer. Designed for those with little or no architectural experience; including middle school, construction trades, interior design and those wanting to add 3D Architectural CAD as a new unit to an ongoing program. See the instant “WOW” factors that make it is easy to teach and fun for students learn! Become skilled with the “House Builder Wizard” and learn how to create professional construction details, schedules, materials lists, multiple floors, simple roofs, simple landscaping and interior design. Upon completion of this course, the advanced user will feel comfortable introducing complete residential architectural plan sets and rendering to their classes or teaching vocational residential building comprehension with the Envisioneer product.

  • 601 - Laser Technologies Levels 1-2
Laser Technology crosses many disciplines: Manufacturing, Graphics, Material Processing, CAD/CAM, Entrepreneurship, Art, etc. In addition to the above areas, time will be spent on Laser types, Laser properties, control software and image generation. Other covered topics will include power, speed, DPI, PPI, vector and raster laser variables. Attendees will experience the CO2 laser effect on various easily accessible materials for the classroom (i.e. paper, wood, metal, glass, cloth, plastics, etc.). Instructors will leave with a comprehensive procedural format to bring Laser Technology education to students. Lab Fee: FREE! TEC, Inc. is supplying complimentary laser material samples to attendees! If you have a special project, bring it along.

  • 701 - Desktop Rapid Prototyping with RapManUSA
    (New Course!)

This course will start by reviewing the latest innovations in 3D additive modeling and manufacturing available to industry and educational institutions. Further exploration will include hands-on with the 3D Printer process by Z Corp and the FDM process used by RapMan
USA. After determining the capabilities of both processes, we will review the best practices of designing CAD models for Additive Rapid Prototyping machines. A major amount of time will be “hands on” best practices of integrating STEM activities while constructing the RapManUSA Rapid Prototyper. Topics will include Mechanical Construction, Metrics, Electricity/Electronics, Motion control, G Codes, CAD to G-Code File Conversion, Quality Control and Plastic Materials Processing. Individuals or groups have the option to work on their own “take home” RapMan USA Kit and should make prior purchase arrangements with TEC Sales.

  • 801 - Engineering byDesign, Technology and Society
    (New Course!)

Technology and Society (formerly Technological Issues and Impacts) is a newly revised EbD course that teaches students to think and act in better ways about the design, construction, use, and disposal of technologies in everyday life. As a workshop participant you will experience numerous activities, working through them just as your students will. This course will challenge you (and your students) to consider our past failures in the use of technology and to remediate those mistakes by thinking green, global, sustainable and ethical. This session will prepare you to prepare today’s students to make tomorrow’s decisions.

Instructor, Dan Caron is an Engineering byDesign Curriculum Specialist, author of two EbD NASA units, co-author of a third unit and co-author of the Technology & Society course.

* Two (2) Graduate Credits are available for an additional cost of $165/credit through the University System of NH, Keene State College, Keene, NH.  A Graduate Credit Form will be available at TEC Summer Institute and must be submitted to TEC during that week in order to receive Graduate Credits.
