This
text, updated for DataCAD Version 11, provides easy-to-follow
step-by-step instructions for creating a three-dimensional
computer model of a one-story, two bedroom single family vacation
home of approximately 1,400 square feet. It also includes
instructions for creating from that model line drawings and
color renderings for design presentations. The fundamentals
of residential construction and design plus the basic concepts
behind various types of technical drawings are also included.
The main activities within Architectural Design Presentations
Using DataCAD are designed to be completed by average high
school students in one semester. The book may also be used
as an instructional manual for college students and professionals
who want to learn the fundamentals of the DataCAD program.
No previous computer drawing experience is required to complete
the activities.
Architectural Design Presentations Using DataCAD is designed
for average high school students with no experience in the
areas of architecture or computer drawing. However, the book
is also an excellent instructional manual for college students
and professionals who want to quickly learn how to use DataCAD.

By
Dr. Len Nasman and Michael Smith. This book is designed
to introduce DataCAD to new users, and to introduce architectural
CAD through the use of the DataCAD software. The book is aimed
at students in technology education, "tech prep",
or introductory level architectural CAD courses, vo-tech courses,
college architectural design classes, and architects and designers
just starting with CAD. The book is divided into a series
of drawing projects developed to help new users explore and
appreciate three dimensional architectural design and drawing.
The
DataCAD 11 Project Book has
been written specifically for DataCAD 11. It introduces the
fundamental operations needed for creating floor plans, adding
dimensions, and using the new symbol browser included with
DataCAD. A new chapter has been added for creating and modifying
symbols, and a new appendix has been added covering input
methods and the use of the powerful “identify/set-all” tool.
Expanded Basic DataCAD 3D design concepts are covered, and
instructions show how to create hidden line renderings and
include them with working drawings. Fundamentals of 3D modeling
are covered through the creation of a block city.
A
number of DataCAD tools are covered including the AEC_Model
macro for adding realistic 3D doors and windows. Rendering
and dynamically displaying rendered images using the o2c viewer
is explained. Those interested in the basics of conventional
frame construction will be pleased to see a chapter devoted
to the powerful Framing macro.
The
DataCAD 11 Project Book was
updated from it's previous version by Michael Smith who is
a registered architect and a partner at Signature Architects,
and an avid DataCAD user. He is the author of "The Official
DataCAD User's Guide," and "DataCAD 10 Advanced
Construction Drawing and Visualization." Dr. Leonard
O. Nasman has experience as a university professor, teacher
educator, drafting instructor, design engineer, and drafter,
and has created practical and popular books, video tapes,
and computer software.
Provides
instruction on how to best utilize the many tools & functions
of both DataCAD LT and DataCAD through a series of continuous
exercises. A set of drawing files that correspond with each
of the exercises is included. This tutorial is not intended
to replace the reference materials included with the application.
Rather, it is designed to augment them with concise information
and practical exercises. 434 pages.
Note:
This training
course works with both DataCAD LT and DataCAD.
