CADKEY® Students Win the Gold and
Silver in Washington
Vancouver, WA - May 6, 2002 - Scott Southwood,
Clark County Skill Center student, recently won the gold medal at
the Washington SkillsUSA-VICA Technical Drafting Competition using
CADKEY, 2D/3D and Solid Modeling software, and Dimitry Mikailenko
took second place earning the silver medal. Scott will be competing
in Kansas City, Missouri at the National SkillsUSA-VICA Technical
Drafting competition in June.
Tom Whittingham, Clark County Skill Center
drafting instructor said, "We were ecstatic when Scott took first
place in the Technical Drafting competition. He is a sophomore home
schooled student, and this is his first drafting class. We knew
he was good, now the State of Washington knows just how good."
The competition was held in Spokane, at a local community
college that is an Authorized AutoCAD® Training Facility. Students
who competed were assigned to produce an orthographic fully dimensioned
working drawing. Because of CADKEY's ease-of-use and Solid Modeling
capabilities, Scott was able to produce an orthographic fully dimensioned
working drawing that enabled him to win the gold.
Whittingham added, "I have been chasing 1st place
in Technical Drafting for as long as I have been a teacher (9 years),
and the best we could do until this year was second place. So for
me it was a double satisfying victory when Scotts name was called.
Both Scott and Dimitry are excellent students who have a knack for
drafting and design. Dimitry's 2nd place finish was just as sweet,
and I can bet there was not a big margin between 1st and 2nd place
in the contest."
Tech Ed Concepts, Inc., North American Academic Distributor
of CADKEY®, and CADKEY Corp., team up to donate software to many

Richard Amarosa, President of Tech Ed Concepts, Inc.,
said, "We are pleased that these students were provided with product
that gave them the power to win. With the combination of CADKEY,
the foresight of their instructor, and the ability of the students,
their first and second place standings were inevitable! They used
the best tools for the job and came out on top. We'll be there to
support them at the National Competition."
