University Employs Application of 3D Design Software as a "Quick Learning Tool"
USM is the leading school in southern Maine that delivers applied science programs, and operates as a center for applied research, development, and technology transfer. Used as a "quick learning tool", incoming freshman at USM will be using CADKEY in the introduction to Technology and Graphics and the Introduction to Engineering courses as the application to support the technology and graphics and engineering curriculum. Students at USM are introduced to the tools, tasks and culture of engineering and undertake a series of small projects that are applied using CADKEY throughout the semester. In addition, USM is making a student bundle available (CADKEY 19 and The CADKEY19 Project Book) to students at a substantial discount. USM operates as a learning community committed to prepare students to meet the challenges of the working world. There are approximately twenty students (on average) per classroom setting, which provides students with the opportunity to grasp the concept of the software and its application to the curriculum. Professor of Engineering at USM, Andrew Anderson said, "One of the reasons we use and have used CADKEY is because of its 3D design capabilities versus other software similar to CADKEY that tend to be very vague. Using CADKEY increases productivity. Other programs tend to slow down productivity because they are complex and students are not able to grasp the concept of the application. With CADKEY they are able to do that, CADKEY is a quick learning tool."
