Angola, IN - August 13, 2002 - Tech Ed Concepts, Inc. (North American Academic Distributor) in cooperation with software developer CADKEY Corporation, has granted an unlimited site-license of CADKEY® Academic Design Suite Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to the Allen School of Engineering and Technology at Tri-State University (valued over $400,000.) David E. Wagner, CPE and Associate Professor of Engineering Technology, is instituting CADKEY Academic Design Suite software in the Parametric Modeling Course, a course required to earn a Master of Science Degree in Engineering Technology at Tri-State University. Professor Wagner stated, "Students are introduced to a variety of software packages in this program, and CADKEY Academic Design Suite has recently been added to the program to enhance the level of design, to introduce different interfaces, and to show what each program's capabilities are." CADKEY is also instructed in the Bachelor of Science Computer-Aided Drafting and Design Technology programs. Students in the Computer-Aided 3D Modeling course use CADKEY to understand the principles and application of drafting and 3D design. In addition, students can continue to use CADKEY in other courses offered in this program as their design program of choice. Tri-State University is one of few post-secondary institutions in the United States to offer a Master of Science Degree in Engineering Technology. This rare but prestigious degree can be completed in one academic year as a full-time student. "Students follow our applied hands-on use of software during the spring semester when they actually go into industry and apply the different software packages they have been exposed to," states Professor Wagner. CADKEY Academic Design Suite software is composed of full commercial versions of CADKEY, CADKEY® PARAMETRICS, DRAFT-PAK, ® and FastSURF.® CADKEY Academic Design Suite provides students with the latest advances of 3D hybrid solid modeling, complex surface modeling, productivity software, parametric modeling tools, and more. Tri-State University is one of three schools in the country who have been recently granted a CADKEY Design Suite unlimited site license. Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Blacksburg, VA) and New Hampshire Community Technical College (NHCTC- Concord, NH) have also received the grant. Students at Virginia Tech are assigned to include their design work in electronic portfolios on the Web and a portion of the students have taught CADKEY as a part of their student teaching experience. NHCTC employed CADKEY in the "Basic Design Course." During the first and second semesters, students are assigned to real-world problem solving projects and determine a solution to the problem using CADKEY.
